Refugee Youth Economic Empowerment and Livelihood
Through tailored training and local partnerships, we provide refugee youth, including those with disabilities, with tools to engage in the local economy. From internships to launching their own social ventures, we create opportunities for youth to contribute to their communities while gaining valuable work experience.
We provide skill enhancement training, business mentorship and coaching for entrepreneurial ventures, enabling refugee youth to achieve economic self-reliance and reduce dependency on aid.
As an organization born from the experience of displacement, we know that survival alone is not enough. Refugee youth need purpose, skills, and confidence to rebuild their lives.
We share a vision of a Rwanda where refugees are not passive recipients but leaders, innovators, and changemakers. The Voices of Refugee Youth project proved this: when young refugees became researchers, they built skills, pride, and agency that last a lifetime.
But too many young refugees are still left out—of decisions, opportunities, and spaces where their voices matter. Now is the time to invest in leadership training, safe spaces for dialogue, and platforms that amplify refugee youth voices. Empowered youth are the foundation of resilient communities. Let’s build that foundation together.
A range of rights must be protected here, with the right to education at the forefront. SRYV is committed to improving the economic and livelihood opportunities for young refugees by protecting and advocating for the following rights:
Right to Work (ICESCR, Article 6)
Right to an Adequate Standard of Living (ICESCR, Article 11)
Right to Participate in Cultural and Economic Life (ICCPR, Article 27 and ICESCR, Article 15)
Right to Social Security (ICESCR, Article 9)
